How to Install an APK on Android (Safely)

Installing an APK is quick and safe when you use official files. Follow these four steps.

Allow installs from your browser or Files app

Open Settings → Apps → Special access → Install unknown apps, then allow the app you will download with (usually Chrome or Files). On older phones use Settings → Security → Unknown sources.

Download the APK from an official source

Use the official download button on the app page. Only download from the developer or an official store — never from random pop-ups or shortened links.

Open the downloaded file

Tap the APK from your notification shade or Files app. Android will show what the app can access before you continue.

Install and open

Tap Install, wait a few seconds, then Open. That is it — the app is ready to use.

🔒 Golden rule: only install APKs from official sources. APKLyr never hosts modified or cracked files — they are the main way phones get malware.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to install APK files?
Yes, as long as you download from an official source. APKLyr only links to developer or official-store files. Avoid sites that bundle modified or cracked apps.
Why do I need to enable unknown sources?
Android blocks installs from outside the Play Store by default as a safety measure. You are simply telling it to trust the official file you downloaded.
Will installing an APK void my warranty or root my phone?
No. Installing a normal APK does neither. It is the same as installing from the Play Store, just from a file.
The install failed — what should I do?
Make sure you allowed installs for the app you downloaded with, that you have enough free storage, and that the APK matches your Android version.
